Conservation Consulting for Large-Scale Agriculture
Strategic Conservation for Productive Farmland
Terra Alta provides conservation consulting services to International Farming, a leading agricultural investment firm with extensive farming operations across the United States. Our collaboration focuses on securing long-term conservation outcomes for large commercial farms in California, Washington, and Florida.
Through targeted grant writing, funding acquisition, and the administration of the conservation easement process, Terra Alta helps International Farming integrate resource protection with agricultural profitability — ensuring that productive lands remain both economically viable and ecologically resilient.
Great Canal Farm - California
Terra Alta provided conservation consulting and helped draft a successful $7.58 million grant through the Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation Program (SALC) to permanently protect 759 acres of prime farmland near Firebaugh. Working with International Farming and the California Farmland Trust, Terra Alta guided the easement funding process—supporting long-term agricultural productivity, water resource management, and prevention of urban sprawl in California’s Central Valley.
Hinterlands Orchards - Washington
Terra Alta provided conservation consulting and helped draft a $4.22 million grant through Washington’s WWRP – Farmland Preservation Program to permanently protect 336 acres of productive orchard and shrub-steppe habitat overlooking Lake Chelan. Working with International Farming, the State Conservation Commission, and Cascadia Conservation District, Terra Alta helped guide the full application and easement funding process—supporting ongoing orchard production, wetland and wildlife habitat protection, and long-term farmland viability in north-central Washington.
Crow’s Nest - Florida
Terra Alta completed an Eco-Cultural Assessment on the 3,730-acre Crow’s Nest Property east of Immokalee. The assessment identified high ecological value, including wetlands and habitat for federally listed species such as the Florida panther and wood stork. Terra Alta also prepared and submitted a Florida Forever grant application, which is still under consideration, and is actively working toward the successful funding and establishment of a conservation easement to permanently protect this important agricultural landscape.
